Important Notice

What is ITTD?

Impact Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD) is a free, online video course created by the Texas Department of Public Safety. It is required for all teen drivers ages 15–17 before they can take the road test for a provisional license. The course focuses on the dangers of distracted driving, including:

  • Texting while driving
  • The impact of crashes on victims and families
  • Real stories from crash survivors
  • Texas laws on distracted driving
  • How to be a safer driver

The course is approximately 2 hours long, broken into 8 modules. It is completely free — there is no cost. You can pause and resume across multiple sessions, but you cannot skip ahead.

When Should You Watch It?

Recommended Timeline

  1. Complete your 24-hour online driver education course first
  2. Finish your 44 hours of behind-the-wheel practice
  3. Schedule your road test appointment at DPS
  4. Watch ITTD 1–2 weeks before your road test date

This timing ensures your certificate is fresh when you need it. If your road test gets rescheduled beyond the 90-day window, you will need to watch the course again (it is free, so no cost — just time).

How to Watch ITTD

  1. Visit the official ITTD website — the course is only available at the Texas DPS Impact website. There is no other legitimate source.
  2. Create an account — register with your email address and create a password.
  3. Watch the full 2-hour course — you must watch the entire course. You can pause and resume across multiple sessions, but you cannot skip ahead. The course has 8 modules.
  4. Print your certificate immediately — after completion, print your certificate right away. You will need the physical printout at DPS.

About the ITTD Certificate

After completing the course, you will receive a certificate of completion. Here is what you need to know:

  • Valid for 90 days only — this is the strictest expiration of any document in the licensing process.
  • Must be printed — DPS does not accept digital or screenshot copies. Print the certificate on paper.
  • Separate from DE-964 — the ITTD certificate is different from your DE-964 driver education certificate. You need both for your provisional license.
Two Certificates Needed for Road Test

You need two separate certificates at your road test appointment:

  • DE-964 (completion certificate) — from your 24-hour driver education course. Does not expire.
  • ITTD certificate — from the 2-hour Impact Texas Teen Drivers video. Expires in 90 days.
