What to Bring to Your Road Test

After waiting 6 months with your permit, don't get turned away at your road test! Use this checklist.

Phase 2: Road Test

Don't Forget Your ITTD Certificate!

The most commonly forgotten item is the Impact Texas Teen Drivers certificate. This is a separate 2-hour online course that must be completed within 90 days of your test. Without it, you will be turned away.

  3. You'll be asked to demonstrate hand signals
  4. Test includes parallel parking, backing, and driving in traffic
  5. Stay calm—examiners want you to pass!
  6. If you fail, you can usually reschedule for another day

  8. DPS only checks the 30-hour practice log — the 14-hour DL-91B instruction log is not required at this appointment

Schedule Your Appointment

Book your road test online at public.txdpsscheduler.com. Walk-ins are accepted but appointments are prioritized.

Finding Earlier Appointments

  • Same-day slots are released at 9:30 AM daily — check between 7:00 and 7:30 AM for cancellations
  • Mid-week is best (Tuesday–Thursday). Avoid Monday and Friday
  • Later morning appointments work better than first thing
  • Avoid the lunch hour (11:30 AM – 1:00 PM)
  • You can check in up to 30 minutes early

Location Tips

  • Try different zip codes — rural offices often have shorter waits than metro locations
  • The Carrollton mega center is appointment-only (no same-day walk-ins)
  • The Fort Worth mega center is open until 6:00 PM on weekdays
