Current Registration Sticker
Valid, unexpired registration sticker on the windshield.
Current Inspection Sticker
Valid state inspection sticker (if required in your county).
Front & Rear License Plates
Both plates must be present and clearly visible.
Working Lights
Headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and reverse lights all working.
Working Horn
Horn must be functional.
All Mirrors Present
Rearview mirror and both side mirrors must be in place.
Working Seatbelts
Driver and front passenger seatbelts must work properly.
All Doors Open/Close
All doors must open from inside and outside, and close securely.
Clean Interior
Remove clutter from the front and back seats. The examiner needs space and clear sightlines.

Payment accepted: Cash, check, money order, or credit/debit card
Test Day Tips
- Arrive 15 minutes early with all documents ready
- The examiner will inspect your vehicle before the test
- You'll be asked to demonstrate hand signals
- Test includes parallel parking, backing, and driving in traffic
- Stay calm—examiners want you to pass!
- If you fail, you can usually reschedule for another day
- Wear closed-toe shoes with flat soles — no flip-flops, heels, or slides
- DPS only checks the 30-hour practice log — the 14-hour DL-91B instruction log is not required at this appointment

Finding Earlier Appointments
- •Same-day slots are released at 9:30 AM daily — check between 7:00 and 7:30 AM for cancellations
- •Mid-week is best (Tuesday–Thursday). Avoid Monday and Friday
- •Later morning appointments work better than first thing
- •Avoid the lunch hour (11:30 AM – 1:00 PM)
- •You can check in up to 30 minutes early
Location Tips
- •Try different zip codes — rural offices often have shorter waits than metro locations
- •The Carrollton mega center is appointment-only (no same-day walk-ins)
- •The Fort Worth mega center is open until 6:00 PM on weekdays
