Starting your Texas Parent-Taught Driver Education course is simple and straightforward. Once you've received your PTDE packet from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), you're ready to begin your journey toward getting your driver's license.
Before You Begin
Make sure you have your approved PTDE packet number from TDLR. This packet number is essential for completing your course and must be entered when you start. Without it, you won't be able to receive your completion certificate.
How to Start Your Course
Log in to your account and navigate to the course dashboard. Click the "Start Course" button to begin Lesson 1. The course consists of 12 lessons covering everything from traffic laws to defensive driving techniques. You can complete the lessons at your own pace, taking breaks whenever you need them.
What to Expect
Each lesson includes interactive content, videos, and quizzes to help you learn. After completing Lesson 1 (6 hours of traffic law), you'll take the in-course DPS written exam (30 questions, 70% to pass). Passing this exam earns your Learner License Certificate, which you take to DPS to get your learner permit. You can then continue the remaining 11 lessons while also practicing driving with your parent instructor.
