Certificate Error Correction

If you notice an error on your DE-964 certificate, it's crucial to get it corrected before visiting the DPS. Incorrect information can cause delays or rejection when applying for your permit or license.

Common Certificate Errors

The most frequent errors found on DE-964 certificates include:

  • Misspelled first, middle, or last name
  • Incorrect date of birth
  • Wrong completion date
  • Missing or incorrect TDLR school license number
  • Invalid certificate number
  • Missing administrator signature

How to Request a Correction

To correct errors on your ParentTaught.com certificate:

  1. Email support@parenttaught.com with your account email and the specific error
  2. Provide proof of the correct information (birth certificate, government ID, etc.)
  3. Our team will update your student profile and regenerate the certificate
  4. Download the corrected certificate from your course dashboard

Processing Time for Corrections

Name and date of birth corrections are typically processed within 1-2 business days. If you have an upcoming DPS appointment, mention that in your email and we will prioritize the correction.

Important: Issuance Dates Cannot Be Changed

Per state regulations, certificate issuance dates cannot be modified after the certificate is generated. The issuance date reflects when you completed the required coursework and is verified by the DPS at your appointment.

What Information to Verify

Before using your certificate at the DPS, carefully check:

  • Name spelling matches your birth certificate or government ID exactly
  • Date of birth is correct (month, day, and year)
  • Completion date reflects when you finished all requirements
  • TDLR school license number is present and complete
  • Certificate has a valid certificate number
  • School administrator's signature is visible

Preventing Future Errors

To minimize the chance of errors on your certificate, ensure your student profile contains accurate information from the start. Double-check your name spelling and date of birth when creating your account or enrolling in the course.

Important Note
The DPS will reject certificates with information that doesn't match your identification documents. Even minor spelling differences or incorrect middle initials can cause problems. Always verify your certificate carefully before heading to the DPS office to avoid wasted trips.
