Take the ITTD Course

Learn about the Parent-Taught Driver Education program and how it works in Texas.

Before you can take your driving test, the state of Texas requires all teen drivers to complete the Impact Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD) program. This is a crucial final step in your educational requirements.

What is the ITTD Program?

The ITTD program is a free, 2-hour online video course provided directly by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). It focuses on the dangers of distracted driving, sharing real-life stories and statistics to emphasize the importance of staying focused behind the wheel.

When Should You Take the ITTD Course?

Timing is critical for the ITTD course. You must complete it:

  • AFTER you have completed your 32-hour online driver education course.
  • AFTER you have completed all 44 hours of behind-the-wheel driving instruction.
  • NO MORE THAN 90 DAYS BEFORE your scheduled driving test.

The ITTD certificate of completion expires after 90 days. If you don’t pass your driving test within that window, you will have to retake the ITTD course.

How to Complete the ITTD Course

  1. Schedule Your Driving Test: It’s a good idea to book your driving test appointment at the DPS before taking the ITTD course. This helps ensure your certificate will be valid on your test date.
  2. Register on the ITTD Website: Go to the official DPS ITTD website: impacttexasdrivers.dps.texas.gov/ITTD/.
  3. Select Your School: When registering, you will be asked for your driver education school. Select “Parent Taught (PTDE)” and then choose your course provider (e.g., “PT214 – ParentTaught.com”).
  4. Complete the Course: Watch the 2-hour video. You can complete it in one sitting or in smaller sections.
  5. Print Your Certificate: Once you’re done, you will be issued a certificate of completion. You must print a physical copy of this certificate to bring with you to your driving test.
